Elijah of Buxton - Christopher Paul Curtis

I did not like this book very much at all. It is very hard to get through, I still haven't completely finished it (I have about 90 pages left).  It is based on a boy Elijah who is the first colored person born free in the small town of Buxton, Canada.  As you know slaves didn't have access to a very good education and the author took this fact and ran with it. If you are talking to a person with a low education can be easy because they are actually speaking but when you are reading it you really have no idea what the things they are saying mean.

I have no problem with people that, for whatever reason, don't have an education but I think the author would have benefited from using proper spelling, grammar etc. because it would have been, altogether, easier to read.

Anyway, the story is good, so far but like I said it is hard to read.

Elijah's friend receives money from a wealthy neighbor after he does work for her for several months.  He plans on using this money to buy his wife and children out of slavery.  There is one problem though, the money is stolen. The real action apparently doesn't start until about the last 100 pages when Elijah decides to go and find who stole his friend's money and get it back.

Clockwork Angel - Cassandra Clare

I love love love this series! In my opinion it is one of the top 5 series in the world. I definitely recommend this and all other Cassandra Clare books to everyone.

I won't give too much away about this book because it is a prequel series and I think that you should read it for yourselves.

It is set in the 1600's (I think :P I don't actually have a copy with me so some facts may not be accurate. Sorry) The main character Tessa who is alone in New York after her brother moves to London for work and then her aunt passes away. She receives a letter and a boat ticket from her brother to go to London. She gets on the boat and travels for days. And when she finally arrives the story really begins.

She is met by a carriage and two women, also known as the Dark Sisters. And kidnapped

I am not going to say anything else other than it is filled with robots, vampires, werewolves, shadowhunters, and betrayal.

Sorry :)

I know I haven't posted anything in a while but I have to read a book for school so it is taking me longer to read my other books. I decided I am not going to review the rest of the Pretty Little Liars books because I don't want to give too much away, after I finish the book I am reading now (which I am not reviewing) I am going to read Clockwork Angel, the prequel to the Mortal Instruments series by Casandra Clare which I will be reviewing. Sorry it is taking me so long to read them. :) I will see if there is any other books I have already read that I can review.

Pretty Little Liars Book 1 - Sara Shepard

I am absolutely in love with this series! There is 8 books in total, I just finished the first one and I am currently reading the second one so there should be a review up soon. It is a very interesting story filled with murder, suspense and secrets. I love the show too but I won't get into that :P

It all begins in Rosewood on the day of the "Jenna Thing", the Jenna Thing is when Jenna Cavanaugh was blinded by a fire cracker that was set of by Ali DiLaurentis. Everyone assumed it was Jenna's creepy older stepbrother Toby who for some unknown reason took the fall for Ali and her 4 friends, Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings and Emily Fields. The summer after the Jenna Thing Ali mysteriously disappears from a late night sleep-over in Spencer's barn turned loft.  Ali is never found and the 4 other girls move father and farther apart. Hanna, Spencer and Emily all stay in Rosewood but Aria's father takes a sabbatical from work so her and her family move to Iceland for a few years.

Three years after Ali's disappearance Aria and her family move back to Rosewood.  A few days after they get settled a family moves into the DiLaurentis's old home (they had moved away about a year after Ali's disapearance) the new girl's name is Maya. In the backyard is the DiLaurentis's unfinished gazebo. The new family decides to remove it and as the constuction workers remove the concrete base they discover a body, Ali's body.

Within a few days of this discovery the girls start receiving notes, emails and texts from "A" who seems to know everything about them, including stuff only Ali knew.  At Ali's funeral they look to the back of the church and guess who they see, Jenna, Jenna Cavanaugh and her brother Toby, who had been at reform school since the summer of Jenna's "accident".

This book ends outside of the church where all 4 of the girls receive a text that says "I'm still here bitches, and I know everything -A"

The first book in the Pretty Little Liars Series is a very suspenseful story that will leave you wanting more. It is a great read for all ages even though it is intended for teenagers. I really like this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

Be More Chill - Ned Vizzini

Well here is my first review. If you have any feed back about any changes you think I should make to my reviews just leave a comment :)

I just finished this book and over all I thought it was a really creative story. It starts out with Jeremy Heere who is the dorkiest guy in school and is also in love with an unattainable girl(aren't they always :P)named Christine and even though she isn't the prettiest or most popular girl in school he still fell for her hard. His life is full of humiliation and ridicule, in fact he can tell you exactly how many times a day he is publicly mortified.  He keeps track of this with his "Humiliation Sheets" which have categories for each of the following: Snicker, augh, Snotty Comment, Refusal to Return a Head Nod, Refusal to Return a Verbal Greeting, Refusal to Touch Hands,Public Denial of a Formerly Agreed-Upon Opinion, Refusal to Repeat a Joke and a Mortification Event. His friend tells him about a newly invented super-computer called a "Squip" which is basically a computer the size of a pill that you swallow and once it is ingested it goes through your blood stream and into your brain where it begins to tell you how to be better. It can tell you what T-Shirt to buy or what to say at an interview to get a new job. The Squip is not yet legal anywhere because there is still a few kinks but just like any other illegal product it is sold in the shadows. Jeremy is able to get ahold of one and after it is through his blood stream and in his brain, things start to get weird. All of a sudden there is a voice in his head -that sounds strangely like Keanu Reeves- telling him what to buy, how to get girls (and what to do once he's got them), how to drive, and even what to say. Within a few days he has completely reinvented himself. Now the prettiest and most popular girls are falling over themselves when he walks by but he still only wants Christine.  After a few parties, a school dance and a bad experience with Ecstasy he finally gets a chance to impress Christine, but he completely blows it because his Squip gives him some very bad advice ("be a jerk, it always impresses girls." says Keanu Reeves").  Remember those kinks I told you about earlier? Well apparently one of them is making bad calls about, well everything. The Squip explains to him that the only way to fix what happened is to stop the Squip with the fail-safe and try to patch things up with Christine. The fail-safe for a Squip is Mountain Dew Code Red. The Squip also says it can help Jeremy with Christine, but Jeremy is unsure about it since it messed everything up in the first place, but he gives it a shot to explain. The Squip's idea is to explain everything to Christine, including the Squip. Jeremy decides that it's a good idea and the squip suggests explaining it in a DVD but Jeremy thinks a novel would be a better idea.

And the final chapter, chapter forty-nine consists of one single sentence "So here you go, Christine. It's not a letter it's a whole book. I hope you like it."

I think this is a great read for anyone who needs a laugh but still want it to have some kind of story to it. I think anyone in High School or even Middle School can relate very easily to this book but it isn't so "teen angsty" (as my mom would say) that it is impossible for anyone over the age of 15 to read. It is a really creative story and I think Ned Vizzini is a great writer! (I will more than likely be reviewing his latest book "It's Kind Of A Funny Story")
